Discussion - Paragraphs and Sentences
- The number of sentences and paragraphs in Lehane's work increase together of course, but not always.
- A higher number of sentences with paragraphs remaining the same may indicate Descriptive
Narrative.
- Many paragraphs with fewer sentences of shorter length may indicate Dialogue.
- Intermediate values suggest a scene of mixed dialogue and summary narrative.
- Note that these higher sentence scenes appear periodic, and separated by shorter sentence, paragraph
scenes.
- Are the interleaved shorter sentence scenes, so called 'sequels' that provide emotional
reactions, or points of character decision making, after the longer dialogue, confrontation
scenes?
- Do the shorter scenes provide artistic relief, with the background of secondary
characters or emotional~ psychological reaction as background for the reader's evaluation of
the dramatic situation?
