- It is difficult to compare paragraphs, sentences, and words because of their different magnitudes. Even
if graphed on different axes, as in the previous graph. Therefore, we can standardize the numbers by
subtracting each mean and scaling to their respective variance. The features we noticed in the previous
graph remain, however, relative comparisons can now be made:
- Words may jump higher in a given scene while sentences and paragraphs are relatively low in number. In
these scenes, then the length of sentences is increasing.
- Sometimes sentences and paragraphs increase with a shorter scene length, but in general, style seems
consistent, that is, words correlate highly with paragraphs and sentences.
